Certified Postpartum Doula
Carrot Fertility Approved Doula
Mia McCue is a DONA-certified, Carrot Fertility-approved postpartum doula and the founder of Gentle Beginnings, a collective of doulas and newborn care specialists serving families across New York and New Jersey. With a deep passion for supporting families through a mental health-focused lens, Mia brings empathy, education, and calm to the transformative postpartum period.
Mia began caring for young children and infants in 2010 and has supported a wide range of families, including first-time parents, families with multiples, and newborns with unique needs. Her background as an elementary school teacher shaped her trauma-informed, collaborative approach to care and sparked her commitment to advocating for parental well-being.
After many years in the classroom, Mia shifted her focus fully to postpartum support and mental health advocacy. Through Gentle Beginnings, she is proud to lead a team that centers parents' emotional needs as much as their practical ones. Mia is honored to walk alongside families during this sacred season of life and looks forward to connecting with each new parent she supports.
Mia was a fabulous postpartum doula for our family! As first-time parents, we were looking for someone who could help show us the ropes for taking care of a newborn. Mia helped us become confident in basic baby care (swaddling, diaper changes, baths, baby wearing, etc.), provided guidance with feeding, and generally organized all our newborn things (bottles, milk storage, clothing, etc). Mia had a wonderful demeanor with our baby. She has a very soothing and calming presence. This was especially helpful during times when I was looking for Mia to take care of our baby so I could shower, eat, or just get some extra sleep. Mia worked with us three mornings per week for our baby's first six weeks. Mia was able to start with us from our baby's fourth day, even though our baby arrived almost two weeks early. A major plus for us was that Mia was an approved Carrot Fertility doula. Mia was on top of the necessary Carrot paperwork, which made the reimbursement process easy for us.
I could not recommend Mia more highly.
We feel so incredibly lucky to have had Mia with us during the transformative first few months postpartum. From the moment she entered our home, her positive energy and calm presence brought a sense of peace and reassurance. She blended so seamlessly into our daily routine that it felt like she had always been a part of our family. Mia had a remarkable ability to intuitively align with our parenting style – gently taking her cues from us while also stepping in proactively - getting to work right away and requiring little direction to offer meaningful insights and support from the very start.
She has a deep understanding of postpartum recovery and infant development and the ability to bounce ideas or questions off of her with each new phase gave us so much confidence as new parents. Mia offered calm, grounded guidance – never alarmist, but always attentive – helping us discern what was typical newborn behavior and what might warrant closer attention.
Mia’s “tips and tricks” spanned a range of topics including soothing, baby wearing, bathing, sleep training, and feeding support. She always made sure to share links to helpful products or videos that I could easily access whenever I had my hands free (key for new moms!).
Mia was the extra set of hands we didn’t know we needed. I could not imagine having gone through this post-partum period without her. She allowed us to rest, bond and breathe more easily during the early days. Above all, she is a lovely person to have in your home and part of your family. We are so grateful for her care and cannot recommend her highly enough.
Mia became a part of our family shortly after the birth of our second child. Having hired an overnight doula for our first, we knew this time around, with two little ones under two, we’d need even more support. From the moment Mia arrived, she was extraordinary. She intuitively understood the rhythm of our home and our unique challenges. I trusted her completely with my newborn, which allowed me to give my toddler the attention she needed.
Mia provided unwavering emotional support and was remarkably proactive, anticipating our needs before we could voice them. She brought calm and clarity during a time when I often felt overwhelmed, almost like the part of my brain that wasn’t functioning in the haze of postpartum. Whether it was preparing nourishing snacks, offering thoughtful breastfeeding support, or simply being a grounding presence, Mia was indispensable. Her presence during those intense early weeks was nothing short of a gift. I could not recommend Mia more highly.
We're first time parents with a preemie baby who spent a lot of time in the NICU and who came home with a nose tube and a feeding aversion. We couldn't be more worried and stressed, and Mia was an immediately calming and soothing presence. She connected with our son and us seemingly effortlessly - she's kind, thoughtful, proactive, and clearly very experienced taking care of babies and new parents! She spent quality time with our son, reading stories, doing tummy time, holding him and comforting him through feeds and naps. She also helped us with baby laundry, straightening up the nursery, washing an endless number of bottles and pump parts, and Mia also learned to use our son's feeding pump and prep feeds for his tube. Mia found useful tools and gear for us to have on hand and has great recommendations - we're very grateful for our time with her! It was lovely to spend time with her and to have her help. Mia is an excellent addition to any family's team!
